Are your kids mucking around?

by Michele Fox on May 15, 2011

Are your kids mucking around? Did you know it is really good for them? They are creative, beautiful free spirits and more than ever today they can be restricted by endless activities which do not allow for any down time. Free play is such an important component of growing up for self management as well as creativity. Can we let go of the requirement of our child to be doing something every minute and also the need for them to do it our way. Can we give our children the greatest gift of just being and doing nothing that we have organised? Amazing things happen when our need for control is let go and we allow these beautiful beings to fulfil their needs and grow to their full potential. A child who is free to be who they are feels confident and great self love. We can get involved too. By being silly, playing games, dressing up and mucking around with them…When was the last time you mucked around and let your inner child come out with your child I promise you will not regret it!

How to get your child to sleep?

by Michele Fox on May 27, 2010

Oh my goodness..night time! I for one did not have an easy time with my little one and as each year goes on things do change. I was always searching for information on “How to get your child to sleep?” Surely it is not meant to be this hard. Am I the one making it hard? Should I just walk away and let him cry. I was one of those mums that had to sit and stroke my sons hair until he got to sleep as soon as I stopped he would wake. If I thought we was asleep I would get up as slowly as possible and even though I never made a noise, a peep and even held my breath he would know! How do they do that?..I call it the fake sleep, just waiting for that moment when mummy or daddy try to leave the room. The more I got distressed about it the more he would be upset ( don’t you just love the Law of Attraction ) As he has become older now a very cheeky 6 year old I still found myself telling him to go back to bed some nights so many time. You know the script..” I forgot to go to the toilet? I forgot to get my drink? “I can’t sleep ” to the point sometime I would chase him back to bed.

What was happening before bedtime? I know what I don’t want so what do I want? How would I like it to be? What is that last hour like for my son before he goes to bed. Do I provide a peaceful calm environment for his little body and mind to settle down and get sleepy? The answer was no. We are all busy and bedtime had become another thing to do with a set time limit. On the weekend he may watch a DVD and then BAM Mummy and Daddy expect me to go to sleep..you have got to be kidding? Even I couldn’t do that. So here are some things I looked at.

* Let him know everything is ok if he is fearful. A great tip from Dr John Irvine the author of “Who’d be a parent” suggests a dream tin ( they can decorate themselves ) that they write what wonderful dream they will have that night and place in tin before bedtime
* Look at what he is eating close to bed time. Our bodies cannot rest is there are expected to digest food also.
* Provide quiet time ( no tv, computer, games etc ) an hour before bed with reading, soft music of course he loves his Relax Kids CD’s or just making up some wonderful story to tell him.

The music and reading has really helped and he just loves my stories, I now see it as a very special time with him at the end of a day and because I have created the space and a different environment, I relax and he is less anxious and I also do not worry about the time as much……Do you have any tips you can share? Sweet Dreams to you all!

Welcome

by Michele Fox on February 15, 2010

Hello and Welcome!

Welcome… I am so excited to introduce Relax Kids to you. I became a first time mum 6 years ago and the first thing I wanted to know was “where is the manual ?”. So my journey into parenthood began and what an amazing journey it has been. Soon I discovered everyone is different, every child, every family and we all just really need to do what is right for us. What a joy it was to come across Relax Kids two years ago while looking for techniques and tips to help my son calm down and relax, especially when he was tired. Funny, I had practiced meditation for many years but never implemented it into my home life.

The resources and products impressed me so much I set an intention to become a Relax Kids Coach and to be able to share this wonderful world with great resources, tips, products including CD’s, Books, Affirmations cards and much more. All to support us and create calm confident children.

I look forward to sharing, learning and growing as we travel this journey together. You can keep up to date with all of my new posts on facebook and twitter. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions I would love to hear from you.

Sending you love, laughter and happiness!

Michele Fox
